Caring For Your Buttons

You've found the perfect Togl™ button to adorn the perfect garment. Now, how can you ensure the buttons retain their integrity, and most importantly, their personality?

Care Instructions

In general, many of our buttons can be gently washed along with the items they are attached to. However, even the most durable buttons do not hold up well when harsh detergents and hot water are used. High heat and the tumbling action of a machine dryer can weaken the structure of buttons over time, leading to early discoloration, scratching, chipping and breaking. If machine washing and/or drying is necessary, we always recommend washing in cool water on the gentle cycle, and drying on low heat and the gentle cycle.

When in doubt, it’s always best to err on the side of caution. Therefore, we strongly recommend a quick hand washing for items with specialty buttons attached, followed by a quick towel drying of the buttons.

Other options for washing include removing the buttons altogether if this is an option, or covering the buttons with aluminum foil when washing. Specific washing information is provided below for many different materials.

Acrylic – Our French-made Acrylic buttons should be removed before washing and should not be immersed in water.

Coconut – Our plain Coconut buttons are durable and machine washable and dryable, though extra care should be given to those with Resin to avoid cracking or breaking.

Corozo – Our Corozo buttons can be machine washed and dried, but soaking for long periods of time should be avoided.

Enamel – Our handmade Italian Enamel buttons are durable, but care should be taken when washing. A quick hand wash and towel dry is recommended.

Fabric – Our Fabric buttons should be removed before washing, and the buttons themselves can be spot cleaned using a mild cleaner and a clean cloth.
